As a user experience designer, project management is crucial in our field. There are so many moving parts, deadlines, meetings, and work sprints that if you don’t manage your time and projects well, you will fall behind or forget where you left off over the weekend. Project management doesn’t have to be too time consuming either or have valuable resources taken up in order to keep the project and its collaborators on task. Modern times have required modern solutions and now we have project management software to help us keep track of and organize or projects and schedules so that it is easier to know when something needs to be done, or set reminders for meetings, etc.
Project management has been shown to improve workflow across different departments and teams working on different aspects of the same project as well as different industries where large teams are assigned to the same project or group of projects. It is an essential part of modern teamwork and should be used in order to not only complete a project, but to ensure quality control throughout its development, to keep costs down, to analysis where improvement can be made, and to set a timeline.
For this week’s assignment, I used Asana, a web-based project management software, to create a project management calendar that details every week and assignment for this course. Having all the course details and due dates on there will help me better make use of my available time before it gets late and have to crunch to get the work completed. I listed out all weekly modules and their perspective assignments. “Asana was created in 2008 by Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz and software engineer Justin Rosenstein after they saw a need to coordinate teams more effectively inside the social network’s operations. They soon realized that tech giants weren’t the only companies that could benefit from greater efficiency”. (Matthew Finnegan)

I listed every weekly module, and their perspective assignments inside of Asana. The software is very easy to use, and I was able to list out the modules and create sub lists to add assignments to each entry. The process was very easy and straight forward and has allowed me to create a timeline of all my work past and current for this course. Having the ability to see what is due and when helps keep my pace of work consistent. This is important because staying on top of work, or even finishing work before a due date will diminish any stress of waiting
At work I used project management software such as Slack, Asana, and design management software such as invision app. Using these tools, my team is able to set dates and a project timeline, check work progress for current projects, check for quality control, and allow my team to work timely and effectively. When a project is dependent on many people, and everyone does their part to contribute to the project and succeed in keeping up with their tasks, projects get completed and the quality of those projects is always consistent. Project management has an important role in project development and will continue to develop further as an oversight tool as projects and products continue to develop as well.
