In today’s society, we live at a fast pace consistently. Information is processed quickly and effectively (most of the time), we use drive throughs for our fast food, we exercise to move around in an hour to make up for not moving from our desks for the majority of the day. When it comes to deep work, it goes against our modern instincts of instant gratification and quick absorption of information. Deep work means focusing on the tasks at hand and making their completion a priority.
There are a few ways to set yourself up for deep work, and it starts with following through on your commitments. It’s a mindset that can help guide your journey of deep work from start to finish. Procrastination is something that we all must face and let’s be real here: work can be exhausting both physically and mentally depending on what you are doing. Keeping a mindset for deep work will help you push yourself to get it done!
Something that you can do to facilitate deep work is to remove distractions with social media being a major factor in keeping us from working undistracted. As hard as it may seem, those messages, tweets, and pics are not going anywhere. Stay focused and then check your social media with the added incentive that by the time you finish your work, you will most likely have multiple messages and texts to attend to because of the time you took to do your work.
Making time for working on your projects is key here. Part of deep work is to make it a priority in your life and schedule. If you set time aside in order to complete your tasks, and remove distractions so you can continue to focus well, you will always succeed in completing your work.
